My experience building the New Canterbury Tales website

Back in November 2021, I started working on the New Canterbury Tales project. This project was presented to my class by our lecturer Tina Burton, as one of the pilot projects we had to work on before we embarked on our major projects. Starting this project, I didn’t have many expectations coming into this project but when we were introduced to Nina’s students, I quickly formed a bond with them which made me want to work harder on the project.

I ended up taking this project further by focusing on it for my major project and, with the help of other great students participating in this project, we made something unique that we are proud of.

After graduation, Nina Kramer and Tina Burton reached out to me, inviting me to work with them to create a website for this project. I accepted, enthusiastically. I loved working on this project during the last year and was honoured to have been considered to keep working on it.

So I built this website!!

I started working on this website back in November 2022, and although I didn’t know what to expect, the building process as well as working with Nina and Tina in a more professional setting definitely exceeded my non-existent expectations.

I was a little hesitant when I first started working on this website since I didn’t have much experience, but I was willing to learn!

Making this website had its ups and downs, I had to learn a bunch of new WordPress skills, such as working with plug-ins, which I hadn’t done before. This learning curve, also meant it took me longer than I thought it was going to take, but this didn’t put me off the work.

I must admit I had a few days, where I’d call my uncle panicking in hopes he would be able to fix something that had broken on the website. Namely, when WordPress decided to update in the middle of the afternoon and I came back from a snack break to the website completely down! (Note to self: WordPress does that sometimes!)

But still, the experience I gained from this was more than worth it, and despite everything, I had a lot of fun with it.

New Canterbury Tales has a very special place in my heart, and I will keep being a part of it for as long as I can 😀

Above are a few of the pages in the wireframing stage, a few of these have changed a lot since then.
