New Canterbury Tales

Immersive Storytelling as a Design Method for joint future creation

Explore New Canterbury In Minecraft

Take the long tour of New Canterbury!

Take the short tour of New Canterbury!

This project started from the need to have a playable model of the city, where we could immerse ourselves in the ambient and experience first hand what it would be like to live in this futuristic city.

We built this city in Minecraft 1.16.5, in creative mode using only ‘World Edit’ as an additional mode, and it took us around 8 months to complete it. Towards the end of the deadline, we did use some schematics for bigger buildings that we knew we wouldn’t have time to build ourselves, but most of it was built block by block. As of now, the city still needs a few additional touches that we didn’t have time to add, but we consider it done.

This project was started and finished by the following students: Daniela Silva, Clíona Faichney, Daniel De Graaff, Justin Sabio, Daniel Kelly and Dries De Roover.

In the future we will be holding guided tours of the server, where, if you have Minecraft, you’ll be able to go inside of the server accompanied by one of the students, and experience New Canterbury first hand yourself. We don't know yet when these tours will be taking place however, we’ll let you know when to register for the first guided tour on our events and news page, so keep an eye on it!
