My idea of a digital poster came to my head after reading the stories of the characters in the New Canterbury Tales. While reading the stories I noticed how some buildings stand out and had an important meaning for the city. As I was aware of the exhibition and the Minecraft virtual city that my colleagues and I built, this made me realize that it would be important for the people that would visit Minecraft to have some sort of explanation regarding some specific aspects of the city, for example, the buildings.
Moreover, if we could implement somehow a digital poster about these buildings it would be interesting, even though I knew that I could add a webpage link inside Minecraft I still needed to know how I could add it to the same page that could be used during the exhibition. This poster could be printed, shown, or even try to replicate a hologram.
After a few unsuccessful tries using After Effects to open 3D objects, I had to use Blender. Even tho I had a go at Blender last summer, I did not know the basics! With this being said I had to look for some tutorials first to learn how to use the software.
While I was developing the idea of the poster I realized that I did not want to follow a specific color as I wanted each poster to have its unique vibe.
For the Farmscraper poster, my main idea was to show the interior of the building as well as the outside, I wanted the poster to have an eco vibe/ aspect.
To complete this poster I had to look for more tutorials at least to learn how to do new effects. The process was long as it was my first try with Blender
For this poster, I wanted to show how nature could be fused in the building and how the Farmscrapers look inside. The letters are supposed to look like they are a structure that is part of the city hence why they are in 3D. The fog is to give a sense of height along with the mountains in the back.
Lighthouse Poster
This building is mainly a memory from the old world. I make it look like a nice sunny day because not all memories need to be bad. This is just a building that was left due to its utility in the old days.
Roundabout Poster
This poster is very different from the others, it was one of the posters that gave me more freedom in what I could put in the background. The concept of the building is inspiring people.
The idea for this poster is based on the building rotation, every time it rotates it inspires people to work and be creative, so my idea was to let the imagination go and symbolize people’s creativity. For example, in this poster, someone imagines a different view instead of the one seen usually (in the virtual city) because they were so embedded in their creativity that their surrounding became their idea.
Castle Poster
Firstly, the main idea for this poster was to have the main door of the castle show. The property is private so we would not be able to see inside.
Of all the rooms the one that seemed more interesting was the library. After I found a good angle that could show a bit of the room, that was not just books or the wall I made it look like an exclusive look as the castle is a private property. The idea here was to make it look like everything belonged to the room.
The castle is the last poster related to the city, the next poster is more related to the exhibition as Daniela Silva needed a poster for a part of her project.
Ender Eye Poster
This poster's whole idea is to be a mystery. Something that people will have to decode.
After a couple of posters I had already memorized how to do the poster so for this one all I needed to learn was how to make 3D bubbles.
This poster's main look is mysterious but also hides a message. The idea is to see if people can decode it in the exhibition.
